Project Grandparents On-line. Everyone’s Young at the Post Office” is kicking off throughout Italy, after the pilot experience run during the summer of 2015.

 

Courses begin today in three more cities: Genoa, Florence and Ancona

 

The digital literacy project is promoted by Poste Italiane with the collaboration of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to teach elders how to use modern communication technology and the Internet.

 

Today, the over-65s in Genoa also return to school at IIS Gian Domenico Cassini, where they will be welcomed by Headmaster Daniela Cambiaso. The courses and tutors will be coordinated by Prof Claudio Natale. Cecilia Stajano (FMD School Innovation Manager) will greet students on behalf of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which manages the project throughout Italy.

 

In Florence, elders will attend the course in the computer lab of IIS Salvemini-Duca D’Aosta, managed by Headmaster Francesca Lascialfari. The course will be coordinated by Fiammetta Pezzati. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will be represented by Rosy D’Elia.

 

It’s also the first day of school for over-65s in Ancona attending the course at IIS Podesti-Calzecchi Onesti, where they will be welcomed by Principal Vinicio Cerqueti and Prof Concita Saracino.

 

In all the schools, the lessons will be held by student-tutors – one for each elder - coordinated by a professor. The students will provide their elder counterparts with the skills necessary to gainfully use new technology.   This digital literacy programmes underlines the commitment of Poste Italiane and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to fight social and technological exclusion of over-sixty-five citizens.
