The Winners
M2M, ProteinLab UTEM, Chile
The design and development phase lasted about three months. The results of research in the field of 3D printing and laser cutting led designers at the UTEM ProteinLab to collaborate with major national stylists such as Claudio Paredes and Matías Hernán. The project was developed by Diego Vilches, who used parametric design tools to digitalise the moulds custom-tailored to the user’s body. The dress was created with 3D printers and CNC lasers.
SHAPEUPITALY, Rosa Topputo, Shape Up Italy, Italy
A mix of flowers, fruit, masks and angels decorate the facades of the buildings of Lecce. Nature, in all its beauty, takes form through rational, classic styles typical of the Renaissance. The human spirit is no longer based only on rationality, linearity, perfection and rigorous moulding, but also on passion and drama.
ATYPICAL, Naples “Accademia delle Belle Arti” in collaboration with the Fab Lab in Frosinone, Italy
Innovation, cost reduction, transformation and eco-sustainability are the key words for this project including three dresses. The first two are based on the 3D printing of TPU-developed geometric shapes applied directly onto the naked body, while the third is the reinterpretation of a bridal dress. The bodice is entirely 3D-printed, the skirt includes an upper part that reveal an underlying tube that can be extracted and turned into a purse.
RICORDATI DI ME, Marina D’Alessandro, Naples “Accademia delle Belle Arti”in collaboration with the Fab Lab in Frosinone, Italy
An elegant dress with a low environmental impact and a strong visual impact that can evoke memories in those who view it. Recent studies have proven that memories reside in specific RNA molecules composed by four molecules. The project is based on the visual representation of these molecules to design a hexagonal module in bioplastics that is biodegradable and contains a liquid created with recycled materials. The result is a modular dress that is fluorescent under UV light.
