The European Integration Fund Newsletter (n.3. 2014) reports on Project "I, You, Us. Autobiographical Routes to Integration" (Action 3 - Year 2012) that is currently being implemented in Abruzzo. The project promotes the social and scholastic integration of foreign minors attending infant and primary schools in the region through an intercultural and multilingual didactic programme.
Autobiographical Routes for Integration in Celano
Nearly 60 digital storytelling laboratories, specific teacher-training courses and the active involvement of Italian and foreign families have
led to the creation of a multilingual and intercultural didactic programme that can be used throughout the schools in Abruzzo and in other regions.
Project "I, You, Us. Autobiographical Routes to Integration" is implemented by the Direzione didattica statale di Celano, in collaboration with ten other primary and infant schools in Abruzzo, two “mountain communities” and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The initiative is also supported by the Abruzzo Regional School Department.
All the didactic material developed for the project is available on the Phyrtual.org platform, an on-line interactive environment for sharing knowledge and projects, socializing and developing social innovation experiences.
From “lu cantastorie” to African “griot,” the local community has rewritten its stories and memories for the final event that was held on June 4, where the project results, methodology and integration model were also presented.
Moreover, the event also featured the projection of a video entitled “I, You, Us - A Common Story” and the “Words in Music” Laboratory with a special presentation by a choir formed by nine teachers.
