Dalla scuola ai mondiali: la via italiana alla robotica

Dalla scuola ai mondiali: la via italiana alla robotica

Il nuovo contributo di Mirta Michilli sul magazine Agenda Digitale

How did the Italian approach to educational robotics come about? How can universities and schools, teachers and students work together to develop the scientific, creative and social skills needed to build the future?

These questions are answered in the new article by Director General Mirta Michilli, published in Agenda Digitale: From school to the world championships: the Italian approach to robotics.

In the article, Michilli explains how educational robotics is now one of the most vital fields of Italian innovation, capable of uniting universities and schools in a common path of research, training and inclusion.

From the international RoboCup competitions to the experiences born in high schools and technical institutes, to the RomeCup, the major event promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, robotics is becoming a training ground for artificial intelligence and skills for the future.

Among the stories mentioned in the article:

  • the SPQR team from Sapienza University of Rome, protagonist at the 2025 RoboCup World Championships in Brazil and the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing
  • the Ikaro team from the Pacinotti-Archimede Institute in Rome, winner of the RomeCup and representative of Italy in the RoboCup Junior
  • the inclusive experiences of robotics as education for trust, collaboration and creativity.

“RomeCup, at national level, and RoboCup, at global level, with their creative and collaborative challenges, therefore represent a miniature laboratory for this transition: they test technical skills, stimulate critical thinking and encourage collaboration between peers and with teachers. In a word, they train the skills of the next generation,” writes Mirta Michilli.

The article invites us to look beyond the technological dimension, recognising robotics as an educational model that combines science, ethics and social participation. A journey that culminates in an invitation: to meet at the next RomeCup, the 19th edition, hosted in spring by Sapienza University of Rome, also to get to know some of the teams that will represent Italy at the 2026 World Cup in Incheon, South Korea.
