The Nonni SUD Internet digital literacy programme, run in collaboration with Auserand Anteas and the support of the Fondazione con il Sud, kicks off in Sardinia and elders discover the web as an antidote to isolation.
Cecilia Stajano interviews the President of the Circolo Anteas di Cagliari, Elena Sitzia, who explains the activities that are organized by the association, based on collaboration and teamwork. “We Sardinians are extremely resolute. We can demolish walls, even if we break our head doing it! When one volunteers, he must put his personal interests aside and think about others.”
For the first time, Anteas is experimenting the inter-generational learning model. School children will teach the elders to use computers and surf the web. The offices will be equipped with multi-function workstations (3 networked PCs, printer, headphones, webcam and microphone) to manage, monitor and document the project. The learners will also be helped by senior volunteers, such as Giuseppe Pau, who was one of the first to experiment with new technologies when he worked for the National Railway System.
