Promoting and supporting gender equality initiatives
There is not much movement on the gender gap front. Italy still ranks 63rd on 146 countries, right after Uganda and Zambia, in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index 2022, a report that measures the degree of equal opportunity between men and women in a range of fields: economy, educational level, health and political participation. This is why we need to accelerate progress towards gender equality and organize a “critical mass” to drive true change. Sharing these initiatives and promoting the multiplier effect of action is fundamental. Together with Sapienza University of Rome we are promoting Project G4Greta (Girls for GREen Technology Applications), sponsored by the Regione Lazio, with the support of IBM.
The project aims to orient young women in years 3-4 of high school towards computer science. The specific skills acquired by participants concern the use of IT to support environmental sustainability, addressing two of the main challenges facing the development of a future world: the ecological transition and the digital transition.
The project is based on nine meetings that will be held between Nov. 2022 and May 2023 at Sapienza University of Rome. Schools must confirm their interest in participating by October 15.
