Smart & Heart Rome: a new PCTO with Sapienza University of Rome
As part of Programme Smart & Heart Rome, promoted with the City of Rome, third and fourth year students, who must choose soft skills and orientation courses (PCTO), have a new opportunity, developed in collaboration with the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions, Art, and Entertainment at Sapienza University of Rome. The course on The Challenge of Sustainability in the Fashion Sector: Between Upcycling and Digital Tools allows students to study the issue of the environmental impact of the second most polluting industry in the world and delve into the challenge of creative recycling: how to produce new products from fabric remnants, recycled clothing, warehouse stocks, etc., in order to give new value to these resources and avoid pollution resulting from the production of raw materials. The programme allows students to understand how a sustainable revolution can start both from the collection project, through the use of raw materials or innovative technologies, and from the production process, with the optimization of waste in the various phases of the project.
In the lab activities carried out in Innovation Gyms, students explore the applications of digital manufacturing tools to connect the principles of responsible innovation and related methodologies to concretely developable projects. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the use of 3D printers and laser cutters. They will be able to prototype clothing or accessories without producing excessive waste material within the frame of the course, and, thanks to a think-make-improve approach, to validate the effectiveness of their work by making ongoing improvements to the project.
The course will be presented on Tuesday, January 23 (4-6 pm) at the Innovation Gym at Via del Quadraro, with Department Professor Gianni Denaro.
