“It’s cheap, ergonomic, soft and comfortable.” That’s how a student describes the original armchair made entirely out of plastic bottles.
The students following the Architectural Design Programme at the Liceo artistico G.C.Argan in Rome have designed and developed an armchair prototype entirely made out of plastic bottles held together by elastics.
“If our armchair were to be produced in series they could provide the perfect seating for school reception areas,” explain the students. In fact, the students coordinated by Prof. Antonio Buldini have launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Phyrtual.org platform.
“It takes 30 seconds to drink the water in a small plastic bottle, but more than 30 years for it to decay. How long will it take to recycle all the bottles drunk by the over 1200 people who attend our school bar? While you try to figure that out, we’ll set to work to transform them into designer objects.”
Here’s the first armchair that was produced at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym
Project Message in a Bottle came in third at the Meet No Neet Competition. In January 2014, the students received an award from Microsoft Italy in Peschiera Borromeo (Milan).
