Training as Social Learning

The Rome Centro Enea holds a series of ICT training courses and services organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. These include:

  1. Management of the e-Cafè(sala Internet 1) that allows guests to freely use PCs, the Internet connection and pursue informal learning activities;
  2. Organisation of Computer Courses (sala Internet 2) that present participants with a Microsoft Digital Literacy Curriculum certification, as well as providing the guests with solutions to their practical and cultural needs;
  3. Activation of practical courses and labs (Civic Education, Driving License, PC reparation, etc. to provide guests with useful skills that will accelerate their insertion on the job market;
  4. Organisation of training activities with local schools.

The value of these activities can be summed up as follows:
  • The e-Cafè allows guests to improve their training, socialise with other guests and work on their future autonomy.
  • The PC Courses have two fundamental objectives: preparing for the Microsoft Digital Literacy Curriculum certification examination and providing guests with solutions to their practical work and life needs through ICT.
  • FMD provides students with ad hoc manuals: linguistically simplified Microsoft material, materials on Italian culture, practical advice for daily use, integration exercises and a glossary. FMD didactic activities are based on the certification that makes the guests more competitive on the job market.
  • All FMD activities are integrated in research and continuous improvement via field observation, questionnaires and interviews to obtain optimal solutions to critical issues.
  • Research and Monitoring activities are encoded in a Good Practice Manual.
  • FMD works with highly skilled collaborators who speak many of the languages used at the Centro Enea.
  • FMD also relies on the informal collaboration with Cntro Enea guests to support social learning. Indeed, some of these informal collaborations have developed into formal work roles.
