The first digital accademic year for Grandparents in Fiuggi begins on an International level with the presentation of the results of the European Project Silver, Stimulating ICT Learning for Active EU Elders. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale coordinates the project and Intel Italia sponsors the National Plan for Digital Literacy. Aldo Forte, Social Policy and Family Councillor for the Lazio Region will also participate in the event.

“Grandparents on the Internet” in Lazio and Europe

Fifteen municipalities in the Province of Frosinone all belonging to the Distretto Socio Assistenziale “A”, have adhered to the Grandparents on the Internet project and undersigned a memorandum of understanding with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to promote the digital literacy of elders. The over-sixties will be taught to use PCs, navigate the web and consult on-line public administration services by young school students coordinated by technology experts. The new school year will see the initiative begin in Rome, Velletri, Fondi, Latina, Cisterna di Latina, Civitavecchia e Frosinone.
“New Technologies and the Challenge for Active Ageing”, which will be held on Thursday September 23 - 9.30 at the Teatro Comunale di Fiuggi, is an important opportunity to present the results of Project Silver, Stimulating ICT Learning for Active EU Elders, which the Fondazione Mondo Digitale experimented in Italy, Spain, Romania and Belgium as part of the Community Action Programme for Lifelong Learning. The initiative has involved over 1000 elders, 500 student tutors and 50 teachers.
The event features the presentation of local authorities, companies, European partners and trade associations, including the European Pensioners Association (Ferpa), the Italian Pensioners Trade Union (Spi-Cgil) and the National Association for Active Elders for Solidarity (Anteas CISL).
