The elderly and the Internet are often distant worlds. The new experimental “Nonno Web” Project aims to shorten the distance between these two worlds with the help of school students acting as teachers.
Social Services Councillor Giulio Rossi was especially pleased to see the official announcement of the agreement between the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the Distretto socio assistenziale A to increase the digital literacy of the over-sixty population. The District has decided to boost its social services with an initiative designed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which has already proven highly successful in many other Regions. The project in collaboration with Telecom provides digital literacy courses for over-sixties.
The original and innovative character of the project resides in the fact that students – coordinated by professors – do the actual teaching. This allows participating schools to insert the project into their official curricula and assign credits for participation in the project. Participation is open to all over-sixties in the District and especially to all elderly centre members.
The course is free. Classes of 20-25 elders will be organized in each participating school, ensuring an optimal ratio of one tutor every two participants. The course will last a total of 30 hours. All didactic material will be provided and includes a 5-volume kit developed by the Department of Linguistics of the Rome “La Sapienza” University.
