Breaking barriers, STEM for all

The Breaking Barriers project is the result of an alliance between the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Google to build a more equitable educational future and promote equal opportunities in the scientific and technological sector. Google joins the educational consortium of the Coding Girls programme, led by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, with the patronage of the US Diplomatic Mission in Italy, which involves schools, universities, organisations and companies to help young female students have confidence in science and orient themselves towards studies and professions Steam. This collaborative alliance is based on the Education for Life model developed by the scientific director Alfonso Molina, which combines knowledge, skills, core values and learning methods to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • 6,000 female students
  • 4,000 male students
  • 1,000 teachers
  • 5,000 parents

OBJECTIVES
The project aims to support female empowerment by committing itself to the following guidelines:

  • Fight against prejudice and stereotypes
  • Equal training
  • Engaging and personalised teaching models
  • Positive role models
  • Transformative learning experiences
  • Orientation towards future careers
  • Raising awareness in schools and families about the importance of developing computational thinking.

ACTIVITIES
Four specific pathways for different target groups:

  • Computer science training, face-to-face and online
  • Computer Science First platform training with teachers
  • Face-to-face intergenerational computer science workshops with parents
  • Online role modelling and future career orientation sessions with university tutors and company professionals
  • Hackathons in Italian universities
    Supporting educational resources to reinforce adequate digital and transversal skills.

DURATION
From December 2024 to December 2025.
