We’ve reached the last month of school and notwithstanding the fact that nearly all students have returned to school, our support activities will continue in blended fashion, based on local contexts. This week’s virtual labs include the following projects: Ambizione Italia for Youth, Coding Girls, Factor J, OpenSPACE and Fully Enjoy the Internet.
Some labs will be held in presence for OpenSPACE in Phyrtual Innovation Gyms in participating schools.
Service projects involving all citizens to improve digital, functional and soft skills include Ambizione Italia for Youth (COL users), Starting Back Up Together, Job Digital Lab, School of Internet for Everyone and Vagone FMD. From 01 to 100.
The cycle of on-line seminars dedicated to soft skills for the labour market continue with the Rome Youth Information Centre - Informagiovani Rome Capitale. And this week also marks the beginning of our collaboration with Porta Futuro and the City of Bari. The first courses will be open to everyone [see news: Porta Futuro in Bari].
In particular, this week’s appointments include the final event of Project Factor J that will be held today at 3 pm. Hundreds of students will participate in a creative jam working collaboratively in six digital rooms, one for each of the project’s therapeutic areas: haematology, neurosciences, infectious diseases, dermatology, gastroenterology and pulmonary hypertension. Moreover, the event will serve as an opportunity to present the results of the survey of trust in science by youth, developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of the Department of Political Economy and Statistics at the University of Siena [see news: Defeating the Phobocracy].
The PowWow Fashion Tech Week, (May 18-20) begins tomorrow in virtual fashion. The event will host a digital catwalk for the 25 finalists of the third edition of the Digital Made Contest. The awards will be presented on Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 pm with Mirta Michilli, FMD Director General.
Due to the ongoing emergency situation and in order to allow everyone to participate in the International Global Junior Challenge, the deadline for project submission has been extended to July 31, 2021.
Finally, remember that you can download the book Interland: Digital Adventures book on the website of Fully Enjoy the Internet. The book is also being distributed (in print) to 80 schools [see news: Travelling with Grandpa].
Antonio Camerlengo’s book is now available in bookshops: Computational Thought. Logic and Problem Solving from Students to IT Managers (Flaccovio, Palermo 2021). The book includes contributions by FMD Scientific Director Alfonso Molina and Linguist Tullio De Mauro (FMD President for over 10 years).
Last Saturday, selections ended for the national teams participating in the RoboCup Junior Academy. The winners and general ranking are now available [see news: Robots on the Podium].
Today, May 17, is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, an event promoted by the International Committee for the Day against Homophobia and Transphobia that has been recognised by the European Union and the United Nations, which is celebrated since 2004. Dublin City University, a long-standing FMD partner, invites everyone to participate in the on-line event that will be held on the Zoom Platform starting at 1 pm.
We would also like to share with you an event organised by our technological partner Dell and invite you to participate in “Digital & Leadership talks 2.0" organised by Dwen, Chapter Italia! The event will be held on Tuesday, June 8 from 9:00 to 10:30 am. You can register here. The first 100 registered women will receive a welcome kit.
