Towards RomeCup 2023

A couple of previews of the multievent that will be held in Rome on May 3-5

In collaboration with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, the 2023 edition of RomeCup has already received two thousand registration, 120 teams have already signed up for the competitions, 15 university teams are applying for the robotics competitions, and 25 organizations will be present in the exhibition area. This edition will introduce the Award for Young Researchers, doctoral students engaged in robotics and artificial intelligence projects.

RomeCup 2023 is just over a month away and the enthusiasm is already high. RomeCup is a three-day multi-event dedicated to the innovation ecosystem. Since 2007, it has brought young people closer to studies and careers in the Steam sector and driven the development of highly sought skills and professional profiles, such as those related to robotics and artificial intelligence. The event will be held at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome on May 3-4, while the final stages of the competitions and the awards ceremony will be held on May 5 at the Rome Campidoglio.

There have been very many expressions of interest for the 16th edition of RomeCup that will focus on "Advancing Technology for Humanity - Artificial Intelligence and Human Intelligence: Crucial Challenges for a Better World." Over two thousand participants have already registered, 120 teams will be competing in the International City of Rome Robotics Trophy and to qualify for RoboCup Junior 2023. Moreover, 15 teams will be competing in contests with universities on prototyping of robots and the creation of software interfaces, while 25 organizations will participate in the showcase area dedicated to innovative prototypes designed by schools, companies, start-ups, universities and research centres. In addition to the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, exhibitors include: Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna Pisa, National Research Council, Sapienza University of Rome, IRCCS San Raffaele of Milan, University of Rome Tor Vergata, University of Roma Tre, and Polytechnic University of the Marche. Thirteen university orientation talks are scheduled by the various universities present to illustrate their specialisation programmes, including: robotics linked to cybersecurity, marine sciences and medicine, engineering and related professions, digital humanities.

There is a full schedule of meetings for scholars, educators and scientists to address various topics, ranging from the contribution of artificial intelligence to the protection of the planet, to the ethical implications of man-machine interaction. One session will host a debate between the top management of large companies on the artificial intelligence revolution.

RomeCup 2023 will also introduce the Fondazione Mondo Digitale’s new award: Advancing Technology for Humanity. Most promising Researcher in Robotics and AI. The €5000 cash prize is open to all researchers and doctoral students, who carry out research activities in research centres, agencies, institutes, universities or other public and private structures on the topics of robotics and intelligence artificial. The link to apply for the award is https://romecup.org/roboticaward.

This year, we will also preliminarily introduce a new challenge, Robotic Arm, that will fully enter RomeCup in 2024. The initiative stems from the desire of some high schools, particularly the Avogadro School in Vercelli.
