The award for “best tutor” of the first edition of the Telemouse 3.0 - Knowledge Volunteers Competition went to a student in her last year at the liceo scientifico F. D'Assisi, Egzona Baxhak.
In the candidature form, she is described as:
“Egzona is a serious, careful, precise and responsible girl. Originally from Kosovo, she has been in Italy for about 10 years. Recently, due to her mother’s worsening health conditions, she has had to work and take care of the family full time. She has a younger brother (15) who attends the same school. Egzona is an extrovert and is always ready to help others, notwithstanding the little time at her disposal. She has distinguished herself for her constant and precious participation in Project Telemouse (only missing two hours) and establishing a solid relationship with the "grandmother" (76) that she tutored. She shared her knowledge with determination and generosity and infused her grandmother with motivation. This approach facilitated the process of teaching-learning and has lead to the creation of a true friendship.”
And Egzona presents herself …
“Dear President of Telemouse, What can I say !? ...
I don’t think this letter will be enough to let you understand, try or simply imagine for an instant, the sensations that I felt throughout this fantastic experience. During this last school year, working with the elders, I have understood that even students, and other young people of all ages, can teach and not only learn from adults, but we can form true friendships with elders (or differently young!) people. I would like to thank you and I hope to be able to repeat this fantastic experience and adventure, that has become a great little personal experience.”
Cecilia Stajano and Anna Lain, who have personally met all the tutors, have this to say:
“Without even knowing the story of this girl, we noticed her right from the first lesson. She shared her knowledge with determination and generosity and infused her grandmother with motivation.”
