Technology is Freedom

"I am proud of participating and providing a contribution to this project. This is just a first step towards change. I am very happy to see an increasing number of schools participate in this great initiative. Obviously, all of this would not have been possible without the great work of Microsoft and the FMD. I must especially thank them for this opportunity, once again, to express myself and share my knowledge and experiences. What can I say? Ambizione Italia is a boundless project and I hope to help it exceed all its objectives. Hold on tight, this is just the beginning!”

On his Facebook profile, Andrea Morachioli, 19, the youngest coach in the Ambizione Italia for Schools Programme, writes that he is working on the labs held in the AI Class at the Microsoft House. Andrea graduated last year from IIS G. Marconi in Civitavecchia (Rome), where he studied Computer Science, and is now studying Computer Engineering at the  Milan Politecnico.

Andrea discovered the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in the summer of 2016, when he participated with his class in a Game Lab at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym. And he hasn’t abandoned us since. During his last years in school, the projects and activities at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym helped him grow and acquire new skills and competences. He worked as a digital animator at the “International Hackathon for Civic and Social Innovation,” participated in the call with Artist Lino Strangis for the Media Art Festival Contest, and was a coach for the Hour of Code and Learn STEM in the Summer. He always felt at home in the Microsoft environment and became strategic for Programme Future Recoded and Project Crack the Code, helping other young men and women to understand the importance of digital competences [see news: Educating E-leaders].

"For me, technology is freedom," explains Andrea, "liberty and responsibility." In December 2017, as a member of the CrowdActing Team, he won the final challenge of the Phyrtual Factory, the enterprise accelerator for young men and women at the  Phyrtual Innovation Gym [see news: Team CrowdActing Wins].

Here is an interview from one year ago with Cecilia Stajano in which Andrea describes his experience with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale as “love at first sight.”
