University graduates and researchers from the Electronics Department of the Turin Polytechnic are developing the prototype of a wheel that will soon roll over the lunar surface.  The Rover will participate in the Google Lunar X PRIZE Competition and will be unveiled at RomeCup 2012 - Excellence in Robotics in Rome that will be held on March 21-23.

The Polytechnic will also display its Quadricopter Robot, an evolution of robotic systems capable of interacting with the surrounding areas and fly autonomously via incorporated cameras monitoring the surrounding area, and low-cost surveillance satellites launched into orbit for scientific experiments.

The Turin Polytechnic will participate in the RomeCup and also promote di Zero Robotics. “This competition amongst technical institutes and schools has been held for a couple of years in the United States with a methodology developed by the Boston Massachussets Institute of Technology. It will now be experimented in Europe, including in Piedmont, Italy,” explains Leonardo Reyneri, Ordinary Professor of Electronics at the Turin Polytechnic and coordinator of Zero Robotics. “Students have to develop a programme to execute a mission:  mine helium from virtual asteroids and bring it back to planet Earth where it will be used as a source of energy."

The Polytechnic will also participate in the debate on “Educational Robotics: an opportunity for development and growth in Italy” that will be held on March 23 at the Campidoglio with the signatories of the National Network Agreement on Educational Robotics.
