Join the team of innovators to develop a makerobot
Are you a maker, a student, a technology enthusiast or simply a curious and motivated person? We invite you to participate in an innovative project that combines generative artificial intelligence, digital fabrication and electronics to create an accessible and inclusive assistant!
The Fab Lab of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, located on the outskirts of Rome, at 102 Via del Quadraro, is an ecosystem of innovation and learning within the Palestra dell'innovazione: ideas take shape in an open environment, thanks to the collaboration between people with different skills, passions and interests. And it is here, as part of the Ital.IA Lab project, in collaboration with Microsoft, that we want to create a robotic assistant based on generative AI, trained with data, documents and processes from the fab lab, to make all the laboratory's processes and machinery accessible and inclusive. This system will allow anyone, regardless of their level of technical experience, to learn, experiment and have an immersive experience in the world of technology at the service of people and communities. In addition to the virtual platform, we will create a physical interface, a real autonomous robot capable of moving around the laboratory and guiding visitors.
The prototype assistant, a sort of maker robot, will be presented at the RomeCup 2025, on 7 and 8 May at the Roma Tre University, at the Microsoft stand in the exhibition area. It will be an opportunity to share the work carried out and present the results to schools, research centers and companies.
What will we do together?
- We will design a robot assistant that can provide suggestions on machine parameters, choice of materials, use of machinery and position of tools, and that can interact with visitors, guiding and supporting them in their work.
- We will work in multidisciplinary teams, acquiring new skills in programming, electronics, artificial intelligence and digital fabrication.
Why participate?
- Acquisition of transversal skills: you will work closely with makers, learning new practical and theoretical skills.
- Inclusion and accessibility: you will contribute to making the fab lab a more open environment accessible to everyone, from children to the elderly.
- Sustainability: thanks to AI, internal processes will be optimized and tools monitored in real time.
- Future prospects: the model developed can be applied in other fields, such as robotics, immersive reality and computer security.
- Networking and professional growth: you will become part of a multidisciplinary team, expanding your learning and career opportunities.
Who can participate?
- Makers, young people, citizens and secondary school students, who are interested and passionate about the subject.
The working group, made up of a maximum of 15 people, will be heterogeneous in terms of age and skills, reflecting the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Students will be able to request a certificate valid for the Transversal Skills and Orientation Pathways (Percorsi per le competenze trasversali e per l'orientamento, Pcto).
How to apply?
If you want to be part of this experience and participate in the development of an innovative project, write us a brief presentation about who you are and what contribution you would like to offer. Send your application to fablab@mondodigitale.org by March 20.
We look forward to hearing from you!
