Storytelling, coding, soft skills, digital journalism: Project Welcome continues at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym and adds on new tools and competences.

After last week’s workshop on digital journalism [see news: How to Communicate], the course dedicated to coding begins today. Valentina Gelsomini, coach at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, will introduce participants to Scratch, the free programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab.

European Project Welcome, financed by the Fund for Asylum, Migration and Integration at the Central Level, involves five European member states: Italy, Belgium, Greece, Germany and Spain. The objective is to develop and test an innovative methodology to promote the inclusion of third country nationals in educational, social and cultural activities, with a particular focus on activities that creatively employ new technology.

Ten young citizens (aged 16-30) from each country will have the opportunity to participate in a free, innovative course to improve their IT and language skills, as well as transversal competences such as creative thinking and problem solving, which will be useful to face life and work in the 21st century.

The course includes the following modules:

  • Soft Skills and Employment
  • Digital Journalism
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Coding with Scratch
