Today and tomorrow, the Academic Senate Hall at Sapienza University of Rome will host a conference entitled “Chile and Italy: Seismic Risk and Cultural Protection”. Sector experts and Italian and Chilean academics will address experiences, challenges and collaborations on issues of strategic interest.

 

Italian and Chilean authorities and university representatives will participate in the conference. There will be five round tables:

· Geographic information systems for cultural heritage before seismic risk: learning and development;

· Scientific and technological progress towards the identification of geohazards;

· Strategies and technology to mitigate seismic risk;

· Emergency and reconstruction;

· Debate on culture and knowledge for the reduction of seismic risk.

 

Alfonso Molina, Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, will participate in the second work day.

 

On Thursday, October 4, the Chilean Delegation, which includes representatives of the University of Chile, the University of Aysén, the National Emergency Office, the Ministry of Public Works and the National Geology and Extraction Service, will visit the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.

 

During a previous visit by a Chilean delegation to Rome, the makers at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym Fab Lab created a “Máquina de Terremotos,” an earthquake machine conceived by Prof. Jaime Campos [see news: The Earthquake Machine].
