Schools Are Made of People

As Tullio de Mauro wrote a few years ago (Buona la scuola se eccelle chi insegna, Internazionale, 2016), in order to understand schools, “we must keep its essential components in mind: those of students, those of teachers and those of who works to improve interaction between the previous two.” School is so heterogeneous that it may be compared to a subway carriage during peak travel time. However, there is a difference: “travellers board and alight, but are not interested in changing the line, the tracks and the stations. They are affected by the operation of the subway, but do not determine it. … Unlike subway users, the many different individuals involved in schools actually compose it.”

And this also occurs in periods of great uncertainty, just like the one we are experiencing today. And that is why we dedicated the first training session for this unique school year and project to teachers. During these months, we have never forgotten their commitments, the peculiar characteristics of their areas and the critical issues that they face. At the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, we firmly believe that these are the periods in which the true value of a community is measured. So, we conducted a survey of needs and scheduled a series of on-line training sessions to address these needs efficiently. [...]
