15th edition: awards presented at the Campidoglio to the new champions of Italian robotics.

The awards ceremony for the 15th edition of RomeCup has just ended at the Rome Campidoglio. This multi-event is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to promote robotics as the convergence point of a wide range of innovative technologies and orient young men and women towards the upcoming professional challenges for sustainable development. In addition to the robotic competitions (Soccer, Explorer, Rescue, On Stage, Cospace Rescue) and creative contests between schools and universities, the edition featured new challenges: the Rising Youth Hackathon with Sap Italia and the “TeCom” creative jam with Lazio Innova.

Today, at the end of the final rounds, which featured 84 teams from 24 Italian schools and one from Malta, awards were presented to the winning teams in eight competition categories in the “Sala della Protomoteca” at the Rome Campidoglio.

The second and third-placed teams in the Soccer and the second-placed team in Cospace Rescue will participate in the European Robotics Championship in Portugal (see full rankings on romecup.org).

The 15th edition of RomeCup has the patronage of the City of Rome and is organised with the support, as partners, of the Regione Lazio, Lazio Innova, SAP, Eni, Fondazione Lars Magnus Ericsson; the technical support of Make a Shape; in collaboration with Edu4AI, a project co-financed by the European Erasmus+ Programme.

“It was a pleasure to participate in the awards ceremony at the Rome Campidoglio. This is an important event that takes places since 2007 using didactic labs, creative contests, competitions and hackathons to attract the new generations to study science, acquire the new skills and learn about the new professional profiles needed on the job market. It’s an experience that focuses on young men and women and their orientation towards professions of the future, networking schools, research centres, companies, universities and institutions. Moreover, it matches the idea of this city that our administration aims to pursue. We must promote research, innovation and creativity to make Rome a multidimensional laboratory in which companies, schools and universities will be able to thrive and allow Rome to meet the challenge of sustainable development.”

- Riccardo Corbucci, President Rome City Council Commission on Statute and Technological Innovation.

“The 15th edition of RomeCup is my first as President of the Foundation. I believe that it is important to transform the passion of youth for technology into a professional value, an ability to do things well to connect people where they may be. Students that have the opportunity to develop advanced digital skills thanks to robotics will reach the future faster and be capable of inventing new opportunities for themselves. RomeCup is this, too, an accelerator of strategic skills.”

- Renato Brunetti, President, Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Unidata.
