Educational robotics, the key role of innovative teachers
They build, program, test, correct and present. Almost 350 young robot engineers are taking part in the competitions of the RomeCup 2025, engaged in a wide variety of roles behind the creation of a robot. Alongside them are 26 innovative teachers who believe in experiential learning and accompany the younger generation in challenges with a high technological and ethical content, thanks to educational robotics.
At the 18th edition of the Trofeo Internazionale Città di Roma di Robotica (Rome International Robotics Trophy), 102 teams from 25 Italian schools will compete in six categories: Rescue Line, On Stage, Soccer, Explorer, SuperTeam and Robotic Arm Challenge. The competition features rescue robots moving through hostile environments, football-playing robots capable of passing and shooting autonomously, mini explorer robots, collaborative robotic arms and creative performances that combine technology and entertainment. Each challenge is an opportunity to practise problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.
This year, we welcome nine schools making their debut at the RomeCup. Some have seized the educational opportunity offered by the competitions thanks to funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan:
- Piero Angela, Rome
- Galileo Galilei, Bolzano
- Volterra-Elia, Ancona
- Majorana-Corner, Venice
- Ascanio Landi, Velletri, Rome
- Vincenzo Cuoco-Campanella, Naples
- Maria Immacolata, Gorgonzola, Milan
- Publio Elio Adriano, Tivoli, Rome
- Fortunato Fedele, Agira, Enna
The RomeCup competitions are also a laboratory for active citizenship, where technologies become tools for learning to learn and imagining a more humane and intelligent future.
