RomeCup 2024: The Experts’ Opinion

Here are further opinions gathered at the multi-event.

The intensity of RomeCup is portrayed in these short interviews published on our YouTube channel with some of the protagonists of the inaugural conference and other debates.

  • Alessio BUTTI, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for Innovation - It is clear that today's students will determine tomorrow's future. They are already doing so with innovative start-ups and SMEs. We must facilitate research in every way and improve study programmes.
  • Roberto CINGOLANI, CEO and Director General, Leonardo Spa - RomeCup brings together the experiences of industry operators and institutions in technological sectors, so that young people can understand what is happening in society. The starting point remains education.
  • Vincenzo ESPOSITO, CEO, Microsoft Italia - RomeCup is a fantastic opportunity. These young men and women will be in the companies that will transform the country, so talking to them and ensuring that they seize the opportunities of this great technological revolution, while being aware of the risks, is fundamental. The ability to know things makes the difference in a person's career.
  • Nathan LEVIALDI GHIRON, Dean, University of Rome “Tor Vergata” - RomeCup allows young people to understand the applications of technology at a transversal level, involving multiple different disciplinary aspects. Therefore, in addition to focusing on the specific skills of individual activities, it also allows them to understand vocations and aspirations for their professional future.
  • Eugenio GUGLIELMELLI, Dean, Campus Bio-medico University of Rome - RomeCup is a fundamental experience. We focus on person-centered science, science for humans. It is essential to work as a team, to be oriented towards using increasingly intelligent technology in the right way. We rewarded the best talent attracted from Romania who researched wearable robotic systems with a pioneering vision in truly explosive scenarios.
  • Carla MASPERI, CEO, SAP Italia - RomeCup allows young people to understand the major issues that will have to be addressed in the coming years. There are basically two: the digital transition and the energy transition. Initiatives like this, in the form of gamification, help raise awareness and will certainly become an attraction not only for universities, but for society as a whole.
  • Giorgio METTA, Scientific Director, Italian Institute of Technology -
We have a tremendous need to provide training to attract young people to subject areas that are considered too complicated at first sight. This is technology that will have an impact on the two main problems of this century: climate change and maintaining a standard of living and quality of health. Technology is an excellent tool for better life and solving important problems.
  • Alessandra POGGIANI, Director General, CINECA - Information, content dissemination, awareness ... must be encouraged. Events in which education and understanding what the prevailing economic model is are opportunities that provide information and increase awareness.
  • Mario STURION, Managing Director Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Italia - RomeCup is important for the entire economy. It is fundamental to develop artificial intelligence and robotics for the benefit of mankind. For us who work in health, it is important to immediately accelerate the development of new drugs for patients and also to make medicine more personalized to benefit patients.
