Robots at the Campidoglio

Soon, RomeCup 2014 – Excellence in Robotics in Rome will move to Rome’s outlying areas, to the Città Educativa on Via del Quadraro, for the presentation of the first Phyrtual Innovation Gym and the Fab Lab modelled on the MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms. The Innovation Gym is a FMD project developed with the support of Roma Capitale.

On Friday 21st, the robots will go back downtown for the final competitions rounds and the Awards Ceremony at the Campidoglio, as well as an exhibition of NAO humanoid robots programmed by the Sapienza University of Rome.

Day two of the RomeCup is not over yet. The big novelty this year is the presentation of the first Phyrtual Innovation Gym and the Fab Lab modelled on the MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms. The appointment is for March 20 at 7:30 pm at the Rome Città Educativa (Via del Quadraro 102).

Whoever had the opportunity to visit the showcase stands may have noticed that digital creation and robotics are two areas that continuously exchange ideas: from the creation of delicate robotic pieces, such as joints printed in 3D to the automisation and distance control of processes and machines. Tonight, thanks to an original interactive presentation of the Innovation Gym with demos and simulations, you will be able to discover the full potential of digital fabrication, along with makers and Roman citizens.

Tomorrow, the 8th edition of the RomeCup will host the last day of competitions and the Awards Ceremony in the prestigious Sala della Protomoteca at the Rome Campidoglio.

Competition categories at the 8th International City of Rome Robotics Trophy are: Soccer (primary/secondary Open League/secondary Light Weight), Dance (primary/secondary), Rescue (primary/secondary), Explorer (junior/senior).

Robocup Junior national selection categories are: Soccer (primary A secondary Open League/secondary Light Weight) and Cospace Theatre.

The competitions feature 102 teams from 13 Itaian Regions. The winners of the national selections will participate in the Robotics World Championships that will be held in João Pessoa, Brazil on July 19-25.

The RomeCup is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the patronage of Inail, the support of Comau Robotics, Enea, Intel and Media Direct /Campus Store, in collaboration with Città Educativa, Anp and DirScuola: media partner are Rai Edu and Focus.
