Professor Marco Morandini from the IIS E. Balducci School in Pontassieve (Florence) is coordinating the students participating in the creative contests - MareBot and AgroBot categories - organised for Romecup 2019.

The two student teams - BEE-doc and ECO-SEA – are working on developing robotic prototypes that will implement agricultural support technologies (apiculture) and to safeguard the Italian marine ecosystem.

The prototypes are being tested thanks to the precious collaboration of the Department of Industrail Engineering at the University of Florence (DIEF UNIFI). The students are chaperoned by Professors Alessandro Ridolfi and Michele Basso, while the work is coordinated by Prof. Carlo Carcasci.

Professor Morandini writes:

"Yesterday, we travelled to UNIFI in Florence and had a splendid meeting with our tutors who are helping us develop the prototype to participate in the MareBot Contest.

After having explained what they do and how they develop projects, they helped us to perfect, down to every detail, the students’ idea.

And after the meeting, all the students were far more motivated and conscious of what they were doing."

The students and their university mentors will meet again at the event in Rome. And while seven students from Florence will compete in the challenge with other Italian schools, the Florence Department of Engineering will host a stand in the showcase are in collaboration with other universities.

As we wait for further information, here is a photo of the development of AgroBot in Florence.
