Robotics: New Network Partner

Professor Antonio Chella signed the Network Agreement on behalf of Director Carmelo Sunseri, for the University of Palermo, Department of Chemical, Managerial, IT and Mechanical Engineering. To date, 45 organisations have signed the Network Agreement for the Creation of a long-term National Strategy for Educational Robotics.

The University of Palermo RoboticsLab was founded in 1998 and then became part of the Department of Chemical, Managerial, IT and Mechanical Engineering. The lab focuses on cognitive aspects of robotics, emotion and consciousness in robots, learning to imitate robotic behavior and humanoid robotics. The RoboticsLab has conducted successful experiments, including Cicerobotand Robotanic, has participated in the RoboCup Competition for European Projects and has collaborated with the Osaka University.

In particular, interactive experiments with the Cicerobot tour guide robot at the Regional Archaeological Museum in Agrigento attracted many local schools. At present, the RoboticsLab conducts important experiments on tele-presence with humanoid robot “Telenoid” in collaboration with Prof. Ishiguro at Osaka University.
