The Robot I’d Like

How can we create trust around social robotics? Yesterday, one of the most crowded lecture halls at the Rome Campus Bio-Medico University for RomeCup 2018 hosted the presentation of the results produced by “The Robot I’d Like.”

The research project was coordinated by Vittoradolfo Tambone, Bio-ethics Professor at the Rome Campus Bio-Medico University, in collaboration with Giampaolo Ghilardi, Moral Philosophy Researcher, and Laura Campanozzi, Legal Medicine Student Researcher.

The survey provides important “advice” for companies that was summarised by Prof. Vittoradolfo Tambone in an interview with Francesca Meini.

In order to increase trust in technology, we need greater trust amongst ourselves. Robots must be efficient communicators, both in our houses and in dangerous professions. They must not have a role in governance and should probably not be anthropomorphic. Above all, however, they must be controllable.

“The Robot I’d Like” Survey is ongoing, both in Italy and abroad, and will continue until it reaches an even greater number of targets.

The “Questionnaire on Trust in New Generation Robots” was answered today by 1550 students. The sample includes 100 secondary schools in Rome and 7 universities. The survey began on February 28, 2018.
