Passionate Start-uppers

They have two things in common: their age (30) and an objective that has become their slogan, flying high without leaving the ground. Their innovative start-up is called Airmovie Lab. Francesca Del Duca has interviewed Nicola Formicola (Project Manager), who explains how friendship led to an enterprise thanks to Domenico Pagliaro (Developer) and Nicola Caiazza (Location Manager).

What did you study?
Nothing specific in this field: I studied cinema, Domenico studies Tourism Services and Nicola Caiazza is still studying Pharmaceutics. We are all self-taught in this field.

How did the Airmovie Lab Project start?
Almost by chance … it was the union of three passions that we have always had. We started out wanting to film mountain climbing, Nicola Caiazza’s favourite sport. This became possible thanks to Domenico Pagliaro hobby with dynamic modelling and my work with audio-visuals.
Our passion fuelled us and led us to the creation of a company that designed and developed remote-piloted drones. We deposited our patent and started producing a drone made out of wood, the Prodigy Wood, which was a great success.

Was it hard?
We encountered many barriers, especially due to Italian buraeaucracy and rules, but we are now about to extend our sales to an international level.

What are you bringing to the RomeCup?
We will present a new model, the Prodigy Racer, which is designed for leisure and sports use, but can also be used for monitoring areas. It’s a small drone with protected propellers that can mount a video camera that is controlled via special glasses. It’s almost like being in a videogame! Production was made possible thanks to our collaboration with the Itis Scampia School, where we met students full of ideas and enthusiasm!
