In Milan, Project OpenSPACE, which has the patronage of the City Hall, involves the Madre Teresa di Calcutta, Via de Andreis and Liceo Scientifico Donatelli-Pascal Schools.
“The figures concerning school dropouts and NEETs are terrible, and I use this term consciously, because mathematics informs us that behind these figures there is far more. In this case, we are speaking of children, young men and women who are denied the hope of planning their future, dreaming and changing the way in which they see themselves and the world around them,” underlines Lorella Carimali, Mathematics Professor at the Liceo Scientifico Vittorio Veneto and finalist at the World Teacher Prize 2018. "Today, social inequality is no longer just an issue concerning income, but also one about not being able to enjoy the same opportunities to develop life projects and make talents and aspirations come true. An equal and solidary society must provide everyone with the cultural and critical resources that are necessary for full citizenship and calculating our square roots.”
