Webinar on cyberbullying and online safety with the Postal Police

Next Monday, 2 February, from 6 to 7 p.m., the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is organising the webinar “One click can change a life”, an educational meeting aimed at parents and educators to address the main risks of digital living in an informed and practical way.

The initiative is part of both the Vivi Internet, al meglio (Live the Internet to the fullest) project and the activities of the Digital Facilitation Centres, with the aim of strengthening the role of adults as competent, informed points of reference capable of accompanying children and young people online.

From risk to protection: the topics of the webinar

Digital technology offers extraordinary opportunities, but it can also expose us to real dangers with profound consequences for psychological well-being, especially among young people. The webinar will address the following topics:

  • Cyberbullying: how to recognise the signs, understand online relationship dynamics and intervene in an educational manner.
  • Sextortion and online grooming: manipulative techniques, victimisation mechanisms and timely protective actions.
  • Personal data protection: what information we share without realising it and how to defend the digital identity of minors.
  • Access to social media and messaging apps: age limits, current regulations and best practices for secure account management.
  • Online gaming platforms: the hidden risks in gaming chats and how to monitor without invading privacy.

A two-stage journey: from understanding cybercrime and its emotional impact, thanks to the experience of the Postal and Communications Police, to practical and immediately applicable strategies for safe and responsible use of the internet.

The speakers' voices

‘There is a way to protect our children online, but it inevitably involves understanding their world. Today's challenge is to network as responsible adults and show ourselves to be competent, non-judgmental and attentive to their difficulties.’

Federica Bensi, Chief Technical Commissioner Psychologist, Postal Police

"The only way we can protect our children, the youngest and ourselves is to always keep up to date with accurate, correct information. I have been a trainer for Vivi Internet. al meglio since 2020, and, since this year, also for the Digital Facilitation Centres. The meetings with the Postal Police combine the experiential aspect, with their real and legal testimonies, with the practical and pragmatic aspect of us trainers, with small, useful and immediately applicable practical tips to change the way we deal with the most sensitive issues such as cyberbullying, sextortion and revenge porn. Engaging with young people and identifying the first signs of change immediately. To become responsible and better digital citizens.

Questions from participants

When registering, you can share your questions and experiences in advance. Among the topics that have already emerged: I would like to know about concrete measures that can be taken at school to prevent cyberbullying before it escalates; what are the signs that a child is being cyberbullied or is cyberbullying others? What advice can be given to children and how can we educate young children and parents about the appropriate use of digital technology, given the widespread use of mobile phones even among very young children? What strategies can be used to address the issue with primary school children aged 9/10? How can cyberbullying be prevented without stifling children's natural curiosity? Once cyberbullying behaviour (and therefore also the perpetrators) has been identified, can the removal/deletion of the content of the communications be demanded and obtained? What are the forms of cyberbullying?

An event designed to transform digital awareness into everyday educational action, strengthening the ability of adults to accompany the younger generation in the online world.
