Nonni Sud Internet is Back

Fighting dropouts and social problems, in favour of active citizenship and ageing, lifelong learning and solidarity amongst generations … This is Project “Nonni Sud Internet” promoted by Fondazione Mondo Digitale, Auser and Anteas with the support of Fondazione con il Sud. The second year of activities is ready.

The two-year Nonni SUD Internet project, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in partnership with Auser and Anteasand the support of theFondazione con il Sud, promotes the intergenerational learning model of Grandparents on the Internet. Students from different grades and types of schools, coordinated by technology teachers, teach elders in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily to use computers.

After the first successful year, the over-sixties are ready for more! The first two regions to begin the second year of courses are Sardinia and Calabria. Elders in Calabria will meet on November 20, 2012 at ITC R. Piria in Reggio Calabria, where 37 have joined the project.

The intergenerational model, which has been successfully tested in 11 Italian Regions (Abruzzi, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto) and 8 European countries, presents some new surprises. One is the new e-Med manual focusing on on-line health that is available in extra large type and the free intergenerational meetings on cross-media and dtv.

After having completed the Nonni SUD Internet Master, even elder volunteers will be able to train their peers on-line. Moreover, six new Recycling Labs have been opened to repair old company computers that will be donated after being set up to schools and clubs.

Project Nonni SUD Internet is financed by the Fondazione con il Sud as part of the Special and Innovative Projects action line.
