Networked School

Today, with the signature of the Network Agreement, marks the end of the preliminary phase for the Networked School in Digital Cultural Heritage, Arts and Humanities initiative.

The initiative has brought together a vast number of Italian cultural organisations including university departments, CNR, GARR and BAICR Institutes, academies, museums the European DARIAH Research Infrastructure, the Stati Generali dell’Innovazione,  and the main cultural institutions belonging to AICI and ISIA. Digitalmeetsculture and the Giornale delle Fondazioni are the initiative media partners.

The objective is to create a school on a networked model with didactic nodes throughout the country and abroad that will ensure the highest possible educational standard, together with innovation and flexibility to provide the digital competences necessary for the conservation and promotion of our cultural heritage.

The public ceremony, which will be held today – Monday, February 16 – at 10 am at the Istituto Luigi Sturzo in Rome, will be headed by MP Luigi Berlinguer together with MP Flavia Nardelli, Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Cultural Commission and MP Silvia Costa, President of the European Parliament’s Cultural Commission.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which participates as one of the agreement signatories, has been working on an inclusive knowledge society for many years by moulding innovation, instruction, inclusion and fundamental values. The FMD will be represented by Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy, University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director, Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

Prof. Molina developed the Life Education Model (knowledge, competences and values) to align the education of young men and women to the challenges posed by the 21st century.

As an agreement partner, the FMD will play an active role in one of the five main action lines for school: arts and digital communication. In fact, with the first Media Art Festival, which will be held in Rome from February 25 to March 1, 2015, the FMD will open a new debate on art and new technology, promoting the creative choices of artists and developing training courses for new professions.

Moreover, thanks to the activities that the FMD promotes at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym, young men and women have the opportunity to experience culture and the new frontiers of digital arts with cultural and scientific tools that stimulate the skills that are necessary to live and work in the 21st century, such as problem solving, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.
