Smart & Social Awards at Rome’s 5th Municipal District

On Friday 26 June, from 6 pm to 8 pm, the “Silvio Di Francia” House of Culture and Sport, at Via Casilina 665 in Rome, will host the Smart & Social Awards. ‘The Cities That Make the City’, an initiative promoted by Smart People FLM Communications in collaboration with Rome’s 5th Municipal District, aims to highlight the social, cultural and civic initiatives that emerge in neighbourhoods and contribute to tangibly improving the quality of life within communities.

The initiative was launched to raise the profile of individuals, networks and organisations that work on the ground every day – often away from the spotlight – to develop practical solutions to the needs of their communities. Associations, schools, committees, social enterprises, cultural organisations and active citizens are the key players in a widespread ecosystem of participation, inclusion and social innovation.

The title chosen for this edition, The cities that make the city, highlights precisely the value of the energies that bring neighbourhoods to life and transform the urban fabric through relationships, projects and practices capable of generating real impact and social cohesion. The evening’s programme will feature institutional segments, local testimonials and the closing awards ceremony honouring the organisations that best interpret the needs and potential of the local community.

During the event, awards will be presented to initiatives that have excelled in the fields of social innovation, digital inclusion, sustainability, education, active citizenship, culture and civic participation. The overarching theme remains the connection with the local area and the ability to make a tangible impact on people’s lives.

The event will also feature a session exploring the topic of online wellbeing, with a dedicated area for the Vivi Internet, al meglio project – the training programme created by Google and promoted by Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, a partner of the event. The project supports young people and adults in using the web and technology responsibly, developing digital citizenship and online safety skills, promoting the informed use of artificial intelligence in Italian schools, and fostering inclusion.

The event, which is free to attend (though booking is recommended), provides an opportunity to recognise and connect the many local organisations that contribute every day to building a more inclusive, participatory city full of opportunities.
