Health Bot: third place went to the team from the Majorana school in Cassino
Andrea Colavecchia, Andrea Pio Mase, Alessandro Macciotta, Jacopo Mastronicola, Germano Pio Masiello, Gianluca Laureza, Claudia Pietrantuono e Luigi De Rosa are the members of Team VisionAll, students in Class 5A on the Computer Science Programme at the Istituto Tecnico Industriale Ettore Majorana in Cassino (Frosinone), coordinated by Prof. Paola Mariano.
They developed the VisionAll Majorana prototype with the objective of making all schools more accessible to individuals with visual disabilities to promote a more inclusive environment. They placed third at the Health Bot Creative Contest, one of the novelties introduced by the fourth edition of Factor J, a project promoted with Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Italia [see news: Pharmabot Wins the HealthBot Contest].
The idea of the project is to allow smartphones to identify obstacles and allow the disabled to move throughout schools independently thanks to the use of a simple app.
The app was designed with a user-friendly interface, which is compatible with assistive technology, to guarantee indoor security thanks to a system designed to identify obstacles, warn about dangers, and provide assistance in case of emergency. “Thanks to advanced AR technology and the integration of a guide voice providing all necessary information for orientation in the building,” the application can be adapted to any private or public building,” explain the students. The three values on which the “VisionAll Majorana” app is based are inclusion, accessibility, and independence.
