At the "Women 20 Summit" in Rome, Ursula von der Leyen emphasised the importance of guaranteeing an equal access to the market for women. In Italy, women have paid the highest price of the pandemic, both in terms of lost jobs and the time invested in taking care of others. Coding Girls aims not only to introduce young women to scientific subjects, one of the sectors in which the gender gap is wides, but also to involve young men to fight stereotypes and commonplaces that prevent young women from proving their value in education, jobs and social life. The Coding Girls Project (and a number of specific project spin-offs) is promoted by a vast alliance directed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. It involves schools, families, companies, universities and public and private organisations.

The national programme, which is promoted by the United States Diplomatic Mission to Italy in collaboration with Microsoft, has new partners that have adopted schools, area and entire educational communities: the Compagnia di San Paolo in Turin and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Naples. Moreover, with ENI, Coding Girls have also become experts on the energy transition thanks to the COde&FraME for Self-Empowerment (Co.Me.SE) initiative. The alliance will continue to grow and address the challenges launched by W20, starting with the new generations.

GREAT EDUCATIONAL ALLIANCE

Coding Girls was conceived in 2014. Since then, it has developed into a large educational programme to prepare the new generations for STEAM, but especially to help young women trust science and orient them towards the careers of the future. Today, supporting Coding Girls (and several specific project spin-offs) is a vast alliance directed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
