Live the Internet to the fullest: the event at Gamm with Corecom Lazio
After the success of the meeting at the Game Museum in Rome, which saw the participation of over 100 people, including teachers, parents and institutions, we give space to the testimonies of those who live the challenge of digital education every day [see the news item Minors online between school and family].
The commitment of institutions: networking for safety
The authorities present strongly emphasised the value of inter-institutional synergy. Eleonora Zazza, president of CoReCom Lazio, described the day as the beginning of a collaboration between institutions and the third sector to build a “safe and aware reality”.
Barbara Strappato, senior executive of the State Police, emphasised how online life now begins too early, making continuous dialogue between parents and children essential, especially for children under 14. Chiara Simoncini (USR Lazio) also reiterated the importance of starting digital literacy as early as primary school, so that awareness becomes a real “cultural asset” for every student.
The role of schools: beyond teaching
The teachers present highlighted the need to empower young people. Laura Moretti explained how the Vivi Internet, al meglio (Live the Internet to the fullest) project is essential for understanding that the web is a world rich in resources, but also in risks if not used wisely. Serena Stazi, a primary school teacher, added that it is a priority to guide children towards digital autonomy as early as the fourth and fifth grades, in order to prevent the dangers of the internet.
The voice of families: educating those who educate
A key point was the need for adult education. Francesca, mother of a 6-year-old boy, noted that “we parents, even more than our children, need to be educated” in order to exploit the potential of the Internet while limiting its threats.
The grandparents' point of view was also represented by Aicia Naser, a researcher and grandmother, who praised the initiative for its ability to mitigate fears related to digital technology through knowledge, hoping for future insights into the psychological aspects of using devices from early childhood.
Video games and culture: a place for dialogue
The event took place in an exceptional setting, the GAMM. Museum of Interactive Works. Its president, Raoul Carbone, pointed out that the museum is the ideal place to explain to families the correct and responsible way to approach video games, understood as art, culture and opportunity.
A commitment that continues
The Vivi Internet, al meglio (Live the Internet to the fullest) project, supported by Google.org, continues with other educational events....
