A Master Teacher

The stage of four students from Itis A. Pacinottiin Fondi (Isabella Tedesco, Timoteo Lamkin, Giorgia Di Fazio and Umberto Marcantonio) has ended. The experience, part of Project The Italian Makers, began in July, after the signature of the Agreement for Educational and Orientational Apprenticeships by Headmaster Mario Fiorillo and Raffaele Pastore. The students learned the art of making wooden mosaics at the workshop of Master Pastore.

“Being a wood craftsman, a living material with which I live and create objects, is extremely gratifying. I love it,” explains Master Pastore, who has shared his knowledge, competences and values with his young apprentices through the life education methodology used for the project.

In the photo, the students, together with their Master Teacher Raffaele Pastore, show their first creations: three wooden frames and a wooden mosaic depicting a centaur, the mythical animal that is half-man half-horse.

However, the collaboration between the school and the master craftsman does not end here … they have planned a surprise for the next Maker Faire, which will be held in Rome on October 3-5, 2014.

The idea is to develop a self-produced wooden mosaic, cutting and modelling the pieces with a laser and milling cutters. In fact, the unusual work group can take advantage of the tools and facilities at the Roman Fab Lab, based on MIT’s Centre for Bits and Atoms, in the Phyrtual Innovation Gym.
