Makers and the Emergency

Davide Alosi, a 24-year-old robotics and artificial intelligence student and coach for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, has provided his experience in digital manufacturing to help fight the Coronavirus emergency. Based on the model developed by an Asian engineer, he has developed protective masks and distributed them for free.

Davide modified the original design to 3D print the masks in a more robust style and used replaceable air-conditioning filters to purify the air. He printed the masks out in standard size for family, friends, hotel workers, cleaners, etc.

"The mask is very simple to produce, even with an average printer. The most important thing is the filter. I decided to use Hepa filters, the ones that are used in air conditioners,” explains Davide. "Moreover, the filter is replaceable by simply detaching the front part of the mask. This means that you don’t need an entire new mask.”

The mask is obviously not certified and should only be used strictly if necessary, but Covid-19 is a true emergency.
