Maker Faire in Kuwait

They were guests of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale at the last Maker Faire in Rome. Now, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been invited to Kuwait City for the third edition of Kuwait Maker Faire 2019 (February 6-10), also thanks to our collaboration with Ebot, which provided two awards at RomeCup 2018.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale stands out thanks to the reproduction of the Liberation Tower, a 3-metre high wooden structure developed with interactive 3D printing and a modular structure composed of 2000 individual pieces. There also are brightly coloured areas for kids thanks to the Fab Lat Kids Network, introduced to Italy by Ilaria La Manna.

The FMD stand, which is designed by Matteo Viscogliosi, designer, maker and Fab Lab Coordinator at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym, showcases a couple of Project Kit:Cut  modules, as well as two applications by Ebot, the DIY ecosystem developed for students, children and robotics enthusiasts. Projects PuzzLab and Cultural Heritage with Ebot were developed by makers Daniele Vigo and Marco Brocchieri, Fondazione Mondo Digitale coaches.

PUZZLAB

A children’s play area that allows them to learn about coding and Italian by playing with puzzles that can be reassembled in infinite manners. Each puzzle piece has a specific shape, colour and word (in Italian and Arabic). The hexagonal pieces, developed with a laser cutter at the Fab Lab, are scanned by Ebot for colour recognition to provide the name of the figure on the puzzle piece and its translation in Italian. The play area is composed of an interactive floor that mirrors the puzzle theme. Children can move about and learn about words in Italian as in a treasure hunt.

CULTURAL HERITAGE WITH EBOT

How does one promote knowledge of cultural heritage in new generations? The solution proposed here is an interactive installation that stimulates attention and curiosity. The replicas of works are printed in 3D via photogrammetry or scanning and made interactive via a microcontroller chipset. Presence sensors activate the rotating base and the LEDs that illuminate the works to provide users with a complete 360-degree view. Simultaneously, an audio file explains the history of the work to the viewer.
