At the ITC "E. Beltrami" school in Cremona, 20 over-sixties, coordinated by as many young tutors and coordinating teacher Daniela Bergamaschi, have become savy web experts who now know how to use e-mail and social networks, e-Gov services and Office programmes.
On Thursday April 4, 2013, the final ceremony for Project Grandparents on the Internet will be held in the Sala Quadri of the Palazzo Comunale di Cremona. The project is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the patronage of the Municipality of Cremona, as well as the support of FNP - CISL.
Cremona Mayor Oreste Perri will present certificates to grandparents and tutors in a ceremony that will also see the participation of Social Policy Councillor Luigi Amore and Education and Family Councillor Jane Alquati.
Grandparents and tutors will also be able to enjoy a violin concert to celebrate the traditional Cremona stringed instruments workshop heritage.
“Together with the student tutors, I paid particular attention to the learning of our elderly pupils, to their needs and human and didactic outlook,” explains Prof. Daniela Bergamaschi. “It turns out that they are full of energy and eager learners. In fact, many said that the course made them feel younger, especially as they were learning about all these things that they had overheard young people speak about.”
Grandparents on the Internet in Cremona has brought together two very different generations: a young one with its hope in the future and a senior generation wanting to forget about its daily problems /such as solitude and illnesses) thanks to the help of the enthusiastic young students.
A further objective was to help the two generations grow together. The students also taught the elders about the subjects they had to study to receive their ECDL license, a true example of learning by teaching.
