The Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Google presented the the project for school integration and the social inclusion of disabled youth at the Second European Robotics Week on November 29, 2012 at the Cava de' Tirreni 3° CD School.

A full demonstration area to showcase the didactic methodology of the project enriched the presentation. Other stands included, a Christmas nativity scene created by students in Class 2° CD of the Eboli school and one by the Rome IC Mar Dei Caraibi school that was presented via videoconference.

This was a fundamental opportunity to compare strategic methodologies based not on theory, but on concrete didactic activities experimented by the students in their own cognitive processes,” declared Mario Di Maio, Headmaster of the 3° CD School (via A. Salsano, Cava de’ Tirreni, Salerno). “As Seymour Papert pointed out: it must be the child who programmes the computer and not the computer that programmes the child.”

Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, held a presentation for the students. “Technology is not only about calculations, but also identifying solutions together with your classmates so that a Robot can carry out the actions that you programme.”

Laura Bononcini, Senior Policy Analyst at Google Italy, declared “We are happy about this important initiative. Our mission is to allow technology to increase access to knowledge and inclusion.”

These two presentations were followed by Michele Baldi, who has coordinated the Robotics course for the students at the Cava de’ Tirreni school. A videoconference also allowed teachers and students from the schools in Rome to participate, coordinated by Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who emphasized how they were the true protagonists!
