Learning by Coding

For a few years now, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been promoting the Computer Science First Platform, introducing teachers who are less familiar with technology to the potential of coding for teaching and learning.

Comprehensive of video tutorials and ideas for class activities, the CS First Platform allows users to develop storytelling, animation and educational games, open a virtual class club, manage coding courses, and evaluate and certify final competences with a “Skills Passport.”

The third edition of Curriculum Mapping features a renewed graphic layout and has been enriched with new projects and activities to teach core subjects in class: Italian, History, Science, Mathematics, Geography, Arts, Foreign Languages and Religion. Activities are free to test, develop and custom tailor for specific curricular objectives of primary and first-degree secondary school.

The instructions provided by the platform and the curriculum mapping allow teachers, students and families to rapidly acquire the fundamental notions of coding to animate characters and scenarios. The projects can be enriched by combining audiovisual elements or by uploading new ones. All you have to do is access the source code and reuse or modify the available algorithms. With CS First and Scratch, copying and remixing is legal!

CS First is a useful tool to make learning more exciting and inclusive for all students, even those with special needs.

A special thank you goes out to all the teachers in the Fondazione Mondo Digitale Community who use CS First at school. Their commitment and passion have allowed us to develop this tool that we can share with everyone.

Happy Reading and Happy Coding!
