Gaming strategies at the Villaggio Prenestino in Rome’s “VI Municipio.”
Empathy, understood as the ability to understand and share the experiences and feelings of others, allows not only for a more welcoming and solidary school environment, but also represents an essential pillar for the inclusion of students from different backgrounds and with different abilities, promotes a climate or reciprocal respect and tolerance, encourages students to open up to diversity, and develops positive relations amongst peers.
In these week, FMD with Coach Enrico Bersani and digital civil service volunteer Francesco Corsetti, are introducing schools to the JOINclusion game , an interactive application designed to raise primary student awareness on the importance of inclusion and diversity. The serious game employs a combination of ludic and educational elements to involve users in virtual experiences that promote understanding and empathy towards others. Players are challenges to face and solve issues related to social inclusion, discrimination, and tolerance in realistic social scenarios and exciting situations. The decisions made by the players influence the progress of the game and its final result, encouraging critical reflection and awareness of the consequences of their actions.
The results achieved in schools that have already been experimenting with the game have been very positive, helping to build a sense of community and leading to fewer episodes of discrimination and bullying. These encouraging results reveal the importance of investing in the promotion of inclusion from primary school and the efficiency of the innovative educational strategies proposed by Project JOINclusion.
Today, we will be at the Istituto comprensivo Villaggio Prenestino, with Classes 4A and 4D, coordinated by Prof. Barbara Russo.
