Internet Volunteering

“One of the factors of our country's economic crisis is the lack of innovation and the consequent limited use of new technology in all sectors: culture, work, school, civil society.
Knowledge Volunteering is an initiative that allows us to promote the use of modern technology in the field of volunteering. This also means connecting, uniting and bridging two years of European social policies: the European Year for Volunteering 2011 with the European Year for Active Ageing 2012 and also keep in mind 2010, the European Year for the Fight against Poverty.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Policy has fought at the European Council for the insertion and recognition of the importance of volunteering for the digital world. Indeed, it was inserted in the conclusions of the European Council (3 October 2011, 14552/11, point 29) calling for the member states and the commission "to promote virtual volunteering as an innovative form of volunteering and a positive aspect of Internet activity."
Similarly, the Decision of the European Parliament and the Council for the European Year for Active Ageing (com 462 2010) states at points 12 and 15 that the use of new technology for the training of the elderly to increase their participation in the work force allows for active ageing.
The intelligent use of new technology, the digital world and the extraordinary opportunities for inclusion of the marginalized (elderly, disabled, poor) allow them to play an active role with others, providing reciprocal help to their peers or weaker categories in modern society, such as children and migrants.”
