Podcasts have become an integral part of our daily lives. In just a short time, they developed from a niche phenomenon into a global phenomenon with a vast range of genre, from entertainment to investigative reports with high quality content. Nielsen estimates that nearly 14 million Italians have listened to at least one podcast over the past year (2021), a 15% increase over the 12 million of 2019.
We can listen to podcasts over a cup of coffee, while we are driving or on public transport, or while we exercise. During the first lockdown, one out of four users listened to podcasts from home and the habit continued into the summer.
According to Nielsen’s annual report for Audible, this is a new cultural product that has no boundaries of genre or technical limits. The qualitative improvement is increasingly more important and sound designers are fundamental.
