Hologram Sculptures

"Basically, all art is an application of technology that somehow depends on science. They are based on scientific discovery.  From the most ancient colours prepared with egg yolks all the way through to industrial ones. Intermedia artist Lino Strangis, interviewed by Marek Rembowski, Assistant Project Manager, explains how he is working with students on European Project Holomakers, trying to overcome their initial prejudice. “At the beginning, this may seem daring,” he explains, “but in the end, the students understand the natural convergence of science and technology and how the two support each other.”

As part of Project Holomakers, the students “experimented with advanced techniques” and produced hologram sculptures. In the video, Lino Strangis explains the artistic method used in class for the complex and rather unusual classroom activities.

The objective of Project Holomakers - Motivating Secondary School Students towards STEM Careers through Hologram Making and Innovative Virtual Image Processing Practices with Direct Links to Current Research and Laboratories Practices is to motivate students to study of STEAM subjects through new teaching methodologies for scientific subjects, such as holograms.

The activity turned out to be a big commitment for the artist, too, who together with Maker Daniele Vigo, followed 40 students and 8 teachers in three schools: Vito Volterra in Ciampino, Touschek in Grottaferrata and Fermi Filangieri in Formia.
