Twenty-nine courses are currently underway for Project “Grandparents On-line. Everyone’s Young at the Post Office,” which is currently underway in nearly every Italian region, after the pilot experience run last July in six Italian cities. The thirtieth course will begin in Potenza on February 22, 2016.
The digital literacy project is promoted by Poste Italiane with the collaboration of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to teach elders how to use modern communication technology and the Internet.
Over the next months, nearly 600 over-65s and as many student tutors will meet weekly in computer labs throughout Italy to complete the 30-hour course that ranges from basic PC use to on-line services.
The didactic activities involve 35 professors as coordinators and the many headmasters and principals that fought to run the programme in their schools. Indeed, there already is a long waiting list of elders interested in the programme in various regions.
