GJC and Millennium Goals

GJC and Millennium Goals

From its outset in 2000, the Global Junior Challenge has always focused on the Millennium Development Goals, operating as a sort of strategic accelerator. Defeating insufficient income, hunger, gender inequality, environmental decay, lack of education, health assistance and water sources … all the editions of the international competition have presented an extraordinary analogy amongst the priorities identified by youth from around the world and the Millennium Development Goals.

The six editions of the competition have created a database of over 3000 projects, identified over 500 best cases and assigned 100 awards.

The final event of the 7th Global Junior Challenge will be held in October 2015, practically on the eve of the deadline (end of 2015) set by the United Nations for all member states to reach the eight objectives concerning hunger, poverty, disease, education and the environment.

Five hundred days separate us from the December 31, 2015 deadline and last week the UN held a special event in New York to kick off this final countdown and launch an appeal to all member states to accelerate on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals.

Here’s a quick recap of the current situation:

Promoted by Roma Capitale, the Global Junior Challenge is organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic. It is a unique opportunity to reflect on 21st Century Challenges for didactic innovation, integration, sustainable development and the reduction of global poverty.

Projects can be presented up to July 31, 2015. For further information and GJC regulations, please refer to the GJC web site (www.gjc.it).
