Can environmental imbalances be caused by gender differences? Can the inequalities between men and women place the entire Agenda 2030 at risk? The

Fondazione Mondo Digitale has tried to answer these questions with the "Green Future" event organised in collaboration with the Presidency of the City of Milan. The event was held in the Grechetto Room of the Sormani Library.

Starting with the experience of CO.ME.SE - COde&FraME for Self-Empowerment, a project promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale wiht ENI, the event involved young women in high school, along with the CEO of Microsoft Italy, Silvia Candiani, and the Director of ENI Demand & Delivery Energy Evolution & Gas, Elvira Fabrizio. Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, participated in videoconference.

The "Road to 2024" experiential workshop held by Alessandra Accogli, Co-founder and CEO of Sinergy Flow, involved the young women in the challenge of developing a sustainable future starting from today’s decisions, changing point of view, mental framework and vision to act.

Coding, reframing and fabbing are the pillars of the CO.ME.SE method, a training course for women that has already helped orient 2000 young women in high school students towards STEAM studies and professions through digital labs, enterprise sessions, and creative development formats. The project provides tools and positive models to help young women build a high-sustainability future that can even become a case study, as a social innovation action to be scaled nationally. The energy sector is behind in terms of gender equality. Acbs in renewables, and especially in non-technical roles.

According to Unioncamere and Anpal forecasts, between 2021 and 2025, Italy will require a further four million jobs. Market transformation will be driven – with new employment scenarios and the positive effects of the Recovery Plan – by two great transitions that are already underway: the digital and ecological revolutions. According to estimates by Ernst Young consultants, the green economy alone will create nearly 800,000 new jobs by 2025. However, to enjoy an inclusive transition, it will be fundamental to interest women in research, scientific culture and civil commitment. We need new female activists for change to address the great challenge of sustainability. With Project CO.ME.SE the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and ENI have introduced 2000 young women to emerging areas and professions with a specific focus on the impact of technology along the entire chain of value of energy production.

“We participated in this project because we believe that a culture of sustainability and digitalisation must begin at school and we want to accompany the new generations to the discovery of key professional profiles for the future, promoting informed choices that ignore gender stereotypes. Cultural plurality and the promotion of diversity are founding values of our company, as is evident from our mission. We are committed to several initiatives that aim to promote and bolster gender equality and female empowerment, given the key role of women in all social groups: family, community, enterprise.  And this is even more important in the framework of the energy transition that awaits us. Diversity can also serve as an accelerator of innovation and growth can only be driven by merging competences.”

“The commitment of Microsoft to provide Italians with digital skills is especially important for the young men and women, who through technology, will be able to imagine a more inclusive future for our country. Indeed, this is the point of Project CO.ME.SE, adding issues such as innovation to that of sustainability, a key pillar for a greener country. Together with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and other important organisations such as ENI, we will continue to promote the opportunities provided by digital tools to young men and, especially, women and introduce them to new emerging professions. Together, we can create a more inclusive and sustainable Italy.

Silvia Candiani, CEO, Microsoft Italia

“We are here today to emphasise how crucial it is that young men and women, especially, be aware of the importance of actively participating in the world of work. Our objective is to promote the opportunities provided by STEM sectors, including the energy transition. The participation of women in the working world is fundamental for the collective wealth of all sectors.
